Compressing file sizes for online submission

The maximum file size for online submission is 800MB, however 10MB is the more usual file size for submissions. For files larger than 10MB it would be useful to compress the files in order to speed up uploading and downloading to/from blackboard.

Compressing Files in Windows

In windows, group the files you wish to upload into a folder. The Right-Click on the folder and select Send To, then Compressed (zipped) Folder. This will create a new file in the same directory as your folder with the same name as your folder followed by .zip. This zip file can be uploaded to blackboard and will contain all your files to submit, but will have a smaller file size.

Compressing Files on a Mac

On a Mac, group the files you wish to upload into a folder. The Control-Click on the folder and select Compress “Folder Name”.
