Currently, the mobile version of PowerPoint doesn’t allow for audio narration to be recorded. This article will showcase one solution that allows us to achieve this. Essentially, we use the Screen Recording feature of the iPad. This allows you to make a movie of the PowerPoint, capturing the presentation and your narrated audio. It should be noted that this process can be applied to any application on your iPad.
Set up your iPad to allow Screen Recording. This article takes you through the steps needed to turn on Screen Recording: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207935
Load up PowerPoint and the presentation you’d like to narrate over. Start the Slide Show either by tapping Slide Show and then From Start or by tapping the arrow in the top right of the screen.
Start recording the screen as per the instructions in Step One. Make sure you turn on the microphone. Narrate over your PowerPoint as you swipe through the various slides. When you have finished, stop the recording. The video will now be available in the Photo Library of the iPad
It is strongly recommended you don’t upload the video directly to Blackboard. Video files take up a lot of space, and students would have to download the video file first before playing them. Therefore, we would suggest you upload the video to your ReView video library using the Panopto app that should be installed on your University iPad. If you’ve not used the app before, this guide explains the process in more detail: https://eatsupport.tees.ac.uk/staff/knowledgebase/using-panopto-to-record-video-ipad/
Link to the video in the module. Once you have uploaded your video, you will receive an email when it is ready to be used. You can now go into your Blackboard module where you’ve uploaded the video. If you’re unsure how to do this, the following guide will take you through the process: https://eatsupport.tees.ac.uk/staff/knowledgebase/how-to-embed-review-recordings-to-a-blackboard-module/
Students can now simply tap play and the video will automatically start streaming to their device.
